abstract = "The two ground electrodes of the south end of the Rio Madeira HVDC
transmission system are located within the volcanic-covered
Paran{\'a} basin, SE Brazil. In this paper, we describe an
upgrade in the methodology applied for the development of the 1D
geoelectric model for the Bipole I south electrode site, and for
the final adjustment of this model, based on the commissioning
data. The preliminary model is based on data acquired with shallow
                         (electroresistivity) and deep (magnetotelluric) geophysical
soundings. Both soundings are affected by distortions caused by
galvanic deviations, due to local surficial inhomogeneities, which
produce a constant vertical deviation in the logspace of the whole
apparent resistivity curves. For the development of the design
geoelectric model, a first adjustment of the set of apparent
resistivity curves is applied. After the electrodes commissioning
an iterative calculation is applied for the simultaneous
adjustment of the electrode resistance and of the geoelectric
                         model.",
